A great place like this is one of the reasons we love to live in
exit at Hyak (No. 54). From there follow the signs to The Hyak Park. It used to be a railroad station.
Hyak doubles as a rail trail in the summer and one of the finest skate ski trails in the state during winter. I’m happy to report the Snoqualmie tunnel is open. People tell me it rains inside. You will need a lighting system and cool weather clothes for the tunnel.

If you’re a back country camper there is a great one at mile marker no. 646. Clean rest rooms and places to pitch your tent are just a few feet from the trail. No doubt it really gets quiet at night. Be a good camper. I have seen bear on this trail and cougars have been reported in the area too.
There are more side trails and fire roads than I can count along the John Wayne trail. If you’re planning a trip out here feel free to email me any questions you have.
